Waukesha GOP Calls for Diane Voit’s Resignation Amid Ethics Complaint and Expanding Media Coverage
Waukesha, WI — The Republican Party of Waukesha County is calling for the immediate resignation of School Board member Diane Voit following a formal ethics complaint and growing media scrutiny surrounding her conduct in office.
The complaint (publicly available here) outlines a pattern of actions that raise serious concerns about the use of taxpayer-funded resources, conflicts between official duties and political activity, and the erosion of clear boundaries required for impartial governance. Among the documented issues are the use of an official district email account in connection with advocacy and campaign-related activity, as well as involvement in efforts opposing district decisions while serving on the governing board.
These ethical concerns have now been independently highlighted in the Waukesha Freeman (January 13) and in recent reporting by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (March 19) and The Heartland Post (March 23), bringing broader public attention to the matter.
“Public office is a public trust,” said Chairman Terry Dittrich. “School board members have a duty to uphold clear ethical boundaries and maintain the integrity of their role. When those lines appear blurred, confidence in governance is compromised.”
The situation also raises questions about the consistency with which ethical concerns are handled in Waukesha. Earlier this year, a private citizen and candidate, Maria Carrillo, faced intense scrutiny over a perceived conflict of interest, despite the fact that Wisconsin law applies only to sitting officeholders, not candidates. That scrutiny and intimidation ultimately led her to step back from active campaigning.
In contrast, the current concerns involve documented actions taken by a sitting board member while in office that used official resources.
“This is not about politics. It’s about standards,” said Dan Freschi, Waukesha resident and concerned community member. “When a private citizen is driven from a race over perception, but documented actions by a sitting official are ignored, it raises serious questions about selective accountability.”
While legal determinations will be made by the appropriate authorities, the Republican Party of Waukesha County believes the documented conduct has already undermined public trust.
We call on Diane Voit to step down and allow the School Board to move forward with restored credibility and focus on students and families.
